Role Overview
The PACU PRN Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality post-anesthesia nursing care to surgical patients in a calm, professional, and patient-centered environment. This role is critical in ensuring patient safety, comfort, and optimal recovery following cosmetic surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and assess patients in the immediate post-operative phase
Safely recover patients from general anesthesia, IV sedation, and local anesthesia
Perform focused physical assessments, including airway, vital signs, pain, and level of consciousness
Administer medications as ordered, including pain management and anti-emetics
Recognize and respond to post-operative complications or changes in patient condition
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in patient charts
Provide post-operative education and discharge instructions to patients and caregivers
Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and clinic staff to ensure continuity of care
Ensure PACU equipment, medications, and emergency supplies are prepared and maintained
Uphold infection control, safety, and regulatory standards at all times
Deliver compassionate, discreet, and professional care aligned with a luxury patient experience
Qualifications & Requirements
Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
Minimum 2 years of PACU, recovery room, ER, ICU, or surgical nursing experience (cosmetic surgery experience preferred)
Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred or willingness to obtain)
Strong assessment, critical-thinking, and clinical decision-making skills
Excellent communication and patient-education abilities
Ability to remain calm and composed in fast-paced or high-acuity situations
High attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
Professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for a high-end aesthetic clinic
Preferred Experience
Experience in plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery, or outpatient surgical settings
Familiarity with post-anesthesia protocols in private clinics
Experience providing discharge education in an elective surgery environment
